Kissinger's just-published book on China (which is not on my reading list, for several reasons) is probably (I'm guessing) a mixture of banalities, occasional insights, and reminiscence. When Niall Ferguson, who knows a lot about some things but China I don't think is one of them, writes about a book of this sort the result is almost guaranteed to be embarrassing, and sure enough, according to K. Winecoff, it is.
