Decided to write my own comment on this post. Just listening to a rebroadcast of Diane Rehm's '09 interview with the late Andy Williams. He could really sing -- I never was aware of him as a singer, too young [cough] to have grown up listening to him. He asked Rehm, in a nice matter-of-fact way, whether she had read his book -- I loved that. Wouldn't it be great if someone had the cojones to ask Charlie Rose whether he had read the book about which he was conducting an interview? (I don't have a working TV at the moment and haven't watched the Rose show in a long time.)
Do you remember I.F.Stone? And I.F.Stone's Weekly? No, because you were about six or seven when we were reading him. I'm about to forward to you The Writer's Almanac that has a worthwhile quotation from him. hwh
p.s. for the record, I of course know of I.F. Stone's Weekly but I don't think I ever read it. I think some of the best parts were subsequently collected in books (?). (Then in the last part of his career he learned Greek and wrote The Trial of Socrates etc.)
